Details Released In Deadly Route 22 Pedestrian Crash In Branchburg (Update)

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Route 22 Wednesday night, Oct. 30 in Branchburg, police said.

The 48-year-old Plainfield man was walking in the middle of the highway when he was struck by a white Ford Econoline van in the westbound lanes just past France Drive around 8:30 p.m., Branchburg Police Capt. Edward Edgar said.

The pedestrian had been struck near the Red Mill Inn and was found lying face down in the grass median severely injured, Edgar said. 

He was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset via ambulance where he was pronounced dead.

The driver and occupant of the Ford van, a 60 year-old man and a 21 year-old man, both from Whitehouse Station, did not report any injuries and refused medical attention on scene.

Police did not indicate that any charges had been filed.

Further investigation into the crash remains ongoing by Branchburg police and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART).
